With her roles in television shows like Divya Drishti and Pishachini, Nyrraa M Banerji became a household name. Before television, she kickstarted her career down south and starred in some of the popular movies with actors like Ram Charan and Jr NTR among others. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Nyrra recalls the culture of heroism in south cinema and shares how she was typecasted and struggled to get leading romantic heroine roles.
Nyrraa M Banerji on culture of heroism in south
When asked Nyrraa if women get enough opportunities in south cinema, she shared her experience. She shared, “This was about 10 years ago. So, when I was working over there, their heroism was everything. Now if I do a female-oriented subject my chances of working with a big romantic hero becomes zero. So this did exist. It’s true. Now if times have changed or not, I don’t know.”
Talking about how she was typecasted, she shared an example of her own film and stated how despite being alongside Jr NTR didn’t get her romantic lead role offers. “My first Telugu film was Temper. And, I played the central lead in the film. I was not opposite Jr NTR, but I was the central lead in the film. It was a powerful role and one of the primary characters. I never did character roles at all that time. I had a pretty long role. Not only this, I shared screen space with Jr NTR although I was not his heroine. Despite having a long role, I started getting offers for central leads and not romantic leads. So they typecast very easily. So this was the problem.”
On the work front, Nyrraa is currently shooting for a movie details about which are under wraps. Before this, she was a part of Bigg Boss 18. Unfortunately, she got evicted in three weeks.
